Gaslighting in Relationships

Gaslighting in Relationships

Gaslighting is part of domestic abuse, Narcissism and coercive control.

Its intent is to manipulate, control, distort reality, and putting it mildly, to make the victim think they are going crazy.

Gaslighting doesn’t just happen behind closed doors between the victim and the abuser.

The abuser can manipulate family and friends in front of the victim to make the victim rethink what they know is their reality.

The victim can defend themselves but the abuser can be very convincing.

The abuser will also shut the victim down and dismiss any opinions the victim has to defend themselves.

E.g of gaslighting.

“That never happened!!”

“You’re just too sensitive!”

“You didn’t try hard enough to make it work!”

“It was you who was always lying!”

“You didn’t want it to work!”

“You know everyone thinks you’re crazy!!”
