Alcoholism in Relationships
Alcoholism can pull apart relationships/families because with it is often deception to hide the behaviour and the finances to support it.
Alcoholism can change a person’s personality and thus bring violence and aggression into the home.
Alcoholism also creates mistrust and abandonment because often alcohol takes priority over family responsibilities and deception creating disrespect and resentment in the relationship.
Alcoholism creates unmet expectations for the other person and or the family. There is an expectation the family or the relationship will be put first, however the alcoholic will fight to defend their relationship with alcohol.
Alcoholism can affect employment if they arrive at work under the effects of alcohol.
Along with unemployment, losing their drivers license can be another affect of alcoholism due to drink driving.
The family maybe dependent on the partners license.
Instead of resolving issues, alcohol can be used to self medicate. Alcohol becomes a crutch to lean on instead of communicating with their partner.
Alcohol takes away from the family because an alcoholic may choose to go to the Pub for hours instead of spending time with the family.
