Would you recognise gaslighting in your relationship?

Would you recognise gaslighting in your relationship?

Do you find yourself second guessing your reality? Do you find it difficult to trust your own judgement?

Do you feel guilty for your feelings?

Are you afraid to tell your partner your feelings because your feelings are not validated by your partner?

Does your partner tell you your feelings are wrong or they tell you what you’re thinking and feeling?

In a healthy relationship your partner will validate your thoughts and feelings.

Does your partner tell you that’s not the way things happened when you challenge them on their behaviour or why they’re home late?

Does your partner deflect and bring up the past of which you have no memory of so you can not defend yourself and you begin to doubt what you know is the truth?

Someone gaslighting will deliberately try to confuse their partner by knocking them off balance.

During conflict does your partner constantly shut you down, speak over you, twisting your words, mocks you, undermines you, or uses phrases such as

  • “Aren’t I allowed to have an opinion!!”
  • “You know this is what happened” or
  • “That never happened!!”
  • “You know you’re crazy don’t you!”
  • “No one believes you, you know that don’t you!!”

Does your partner lack empathy when you’re hurting? Or do they apologise when you express they’ve hurt you?

Does your partner have no trouble hurting you, undermining you, emotionally manipulating you and never apologise but rather justifies their behaviour or blames you?
