Why does a person find it difficult to leave a narcissistic relationship?

🔶 They believe their partner can change.

🔶 They remember the person they fell in love with during the love-bombing stage. This is a distorted fantasy.

🔶 Giving up on the relationship makes them feel they were never loved which is hard to accept.
Staying in the relationship means to deny the abuse.

🔶 Fear of abandonment. Their fear of being alone clouds the abusive relationship.

🔶 They believe they cannot survive without the narcissist. The narcissist has them totally dependent on them.

🔶 There are threats of violence on themselves, their children and or pets if they leave.

🔶 Narcissist’s play victim, begging the victim to return, promising they’ve changed.

🔶 The narcissist convinces the victim is to blame for the narcissist’s abuse towards them. The victim remains, believing if they change, the narcissist will change.

🔶 The victim feels powerless.
