Why do men pull away?
Things were going great. You couldn’t wait to message each other in the morning, throughout the day and even at night. You would ring each other during the day. You couldn’t wait for the weekends to come around to go out.
Suddenly or even years down the track, you begin to notice your relationship isn’t as strong as it was in the beginning.
Maybe the messages have dropped off. He’s stopped calling during the day like he use to.
Maybe he’s now become a little snappy or critical of you.
You’ve asked if he’s ok and he denies anything is wrong.
You go through your mind to check if you might have done anything to cause this disconnection you’re feeling.
So what is causing the distance in the relationship?
There could be a number of reasons which may have nothing to do with you.
It could be due to work place issues with a colleague or his confidence might be low at work.
Maybe for some reason his self confidence is low in general.
If it is to do with the relationship, maybe he is needing more from you but doesn’t know how to tell you.
Could he be comparing the relationship with mutual friend’s relationships and thinking “Is this what I want.”
At the end of a hard day some guys need to wind down doing their own thing. If their partner is complaining or demanding they can feel smothered.
So what can you do?
Try to talk with your partner about what is bothering him. Maybe suggest couples counselling if you’re really worried about it.
Suggest regular date nights if you’re not already doing this to put some excitement back into your relationship and even suggest going away for a weekend.
Ask your partner is there anything he is needing from you? How could you be more supportive?
