What Direction Is Your Relationship Going?
Our words can build our partner and relationship up or tear them both down in a matter of seconds.
Our words can literally change the direction of our relationship and be the difference of life long happiness with our partner or sudden death to our relationship.
Our words can build confidence and self-worth into our partner or destroy their self-esteem.
When speaking to our partner we should imagine a sign above them that reads “Fragile, treat with loving kindness.”
Positive Verses Negative
Positive and romantic words, words of kindness and encouragement draw us closer to our partner, strengthening all emotional and physical intimacy while improving communication and conflict skills.
Negative words breed contempt, criticism and a pushing away of our partner.
A Difference Of Opinion
During conversations respect the other persons opinions. You are not going to agree 100% of the time on issues or ideas. If your partner disagrees with you ask questions around their point of view. Maybe they’ve thought about things you didn’t consider. Don’t be totally closed off to another perspective because it is different to yours.
If you don’t agree with their perspective, be respectful and speak words of kindness.
If you shut down your partner’s opinion because it doesn’t line up with yours, they will think twice before they share their ideas and opinions with you. This will affect emotional and physical intimacy.
Goals
The goal of any relationship should be to work towards a loving and connected relationship in every way and the first place to start should be the words and tone of voice we use to speak to one another.
You can be speaking the right words but come across patronising which in effect is disingenuous.
Be sincere and encouraging with your words and tone of voice towards your partner. Remember the way you communicate with your partner can be the difference of life or death of a loving and connected relationship you’ve always longed for.
