What destroys relationships?

What destroys relationships?

Relationships are about trust, and feeling safe in all aspects physically, financially, sexually, psychologically and emotionally.

Everyone expects to be accepted for who they are by their partner without their partner wanting to change them.

But this is not always the case.

When your partner tries to change you it sends the message there is something wrong with you or the decisions that you make for yourself.

Is your partner trying to change/control you and would you recognise it if they were?

It could be anything from your partner trying to change your hair colour, clothing, what you watch on TV, your career, the way you talk, your activities, career or convincing you to hand over your wage to them or stopping you from having a driver’s license or even from working.

Your partner calls you derogative names and tells you you’re stupid, you need help, they’re concerned about your mental health, or your family and friends think badly of you. (Gaslighting.)

Control takes many different forms.

Sometimes it isn’t obvious and slowly creeps into the relationship.

You may be convinced to isolate yourself from family and friends.

Before you realise it you have lost your identity and you are totally dependent on your partner.

By now you have lost your self-worth and any confidence you brought into the relationship.

You probably still convince yourself you love your partner in spite of being controlled and having your independence taken from you.

This is not love and support.

This is control and abuse.

This is a toxic relationship and you need professional support.
