Taking your partner for granted
It is easy for couples to take each other for granted. We forget to validate/acknowledge what our partner does for us and it is so important to feel appreciated and valued.
When we don’t feel valued and appreciated we begin to pull away from our partner emotionally and physically because we don’t feel a priority or loved in the relationship.
What does validation look like?
“Thank you honey for vacuuming. I appreciate it when you do that for me.”
“Thank you for hanging out the washing. I didn’t know when I was going to get that done.”
“Thank you honey for this beautiful dinner. It means a lot that you went to so much trouble for me.”
“Thank you for mowing the lawn honey. You’re so good at that and it makes a difference to the house.”
“Thank you for getting the kids ready for school. That meant I was able to get other things done this morning.”
“Did I ever tell you how much I appreciate you!!”
“I love the way you look in that!! You look so good!!”
You might be thinking
“Why should I validate my partner!! They never do it for me!!”
This becomes a tit for tat situation which creates the big divide in the relationship. Sometimes we have to become the change we want to see in our relationship.
Nothing changes if nothing changes!
If you want to be in a better place in your relationship, if you want to be best friends and lovers again, then we need to make the first move and change the way we speak and treat each other.
When two people love and value each other, they want to validate their partner’s efforts and do nice things for them like breakfast in bed. There is great value in this for both people.
