Relationships & Getting Your Needs Met
When a person doesn’t feel heard on a subject with their partner, they may repeat themselves over and over.
Their partner may hear it as nagging and begin to tune out while developing feelings of resentment, contempt and criticism.
This may cause them to pull away emotionally, physically as well as stop communicating with their partner.
The partner who is “nagging” may feel rejected and not valued because what they are asking their partner for is falling on deaf ears and the message they get is what is important to them is not a priority to their partner and therefore they are not a priority either.
The result is two people are pulling away from each other and sabotaging getting their needs met by their partner.
This is caused by a lack of communication. If one person is not able to meet the need of the other person, they need to communicate they may not be able to achieve that in the time frame of their partner’s expectation, but they still need to make time for it.
If the partner says they will do what their partner is asking but consistently there is no follow through, the message they are sending is their partner is not important to them and they will feel this.
