Relationships aren’t always smooth sailing

Relationships aren’t always smooth sailing

They aren’t all sunshine and roses. There are going to be times both of you will disagree and even argue over a sensitive subject. This is not only natural for two people in a relationship but it is also healthy.

Conflict is not a bad thing and it is meant to be used as a relationship tool. Conflict is evidence of needs on both sides not being met. It is a good starting point to learn to listen to each other, considering each perspective.

Another part of the relationship is taking an interest in each other’s interests.

Ask questions and even learn about their interests. If your partner cannot share with their best friend what excites them, they will find someone who is interested.

Learning about what excites your partner will draw you closer together, building on the emotional and physical connections.

Don’t forget, if you are parents you’re also a couple. It is important to keep up the “I love you’s” and the physical affection every day. This builds up the emotional connection and keeps the relationship strong.

A sense of humour is also important, being silly and having fun together.

Most of all, when one of you are going through something painful, be there for them as a listening ear with open arms.
