Relationships & Affairs

An affair isn’t about sex.

Affairs begin because one person feels lonely in the relationship resulting in an emotional and physical disconnection and even ongoing conflict, criticism, resentment, contempt, and detachment.

It isn’t always the wounded partner who reaches out to the opposite sex outside the relationship.

When there is a detachment in communication, both people are left feeling lonely.

One partner finds someone who will listen and validate their feelings. This partner is feeling heard and shares intimate details of the failed relationship.

The problem is, it gives the outsider an inside advantage because they know where the cracks are in the relationship.

This sets up the betrayed partner for failure.

The other partner focuses on the negatives of the betrayed partner and the gap widens between them.

“An emotional affair is a physical affair that hasn’t happened yet.”

An emotional affair will eventually lead to a physical affair.

An emotional affair starts off innocently with conversations and text messages to the opposite sex then results in face-to-face meetings.

Any outside relationship that takes the attention away from your relationship is an affair.

Things to look out for:

Your partner keeps their phone on them at all times when they would normally leave their phone lying around.

Your partner has added a new password to all their devices.

Your partner faces their phone down when you’re sitting near them.

Your partner is suddenly leaving for work early or coming home late.

Your partner has suddenly become short-fused, less tolerant, or acts like you’re a burden.

Your partner suddenly refuses affection.
