Relationship Needs

Relationship Needs

If you’ve grown up in a family where your needs were pushed aside, the message you got would have been “my needs are not important”.

This becomes learnt behaviour which is taken into adult relationships.

What happens is you are drawn to someone who has a stronger personality and makes all the decisions for you. However, while you’re happy for this to happen at the beginning of the relationship because it feels normal based on your childhood, as you mature within the relationship, you begin to resent your partner for making all the decisions while you realise you have been in a relationship filled with unmet needs because you haven’t expressed your needs and you may not know what those needs are because your parent/parents may have made all your decisions.

Because your partner is used to making all the decisions, they may have assumed you were happy for this to continue without checking in with you along the way about what your needs are.

If you recognise this issue within your relationship and would like to be able to communicate needs as a couple, click on the link below for a booking today.
