Needs in Relationships
Everyone in a relationship has needs and it’s important to be clear about what they are.
For those who are people pleasers, this can make them feel very uncomfortable to have this conversation, so instead of sharing with their partner what their needs are, they say nothing to avoid what they suspect will attract conflict.
Sharing your needs with your partner isn’t attacking them, it’s bringing to light that you too have needs.
If your needs are not being met by your partner you will over time become critical and unsatisfied in the relationship.
The same result will be if you always say yes to everything when you’re either exhausted or you ignore your own needs each time you’re saying yes.
Sharing your needs with your partner helps them to know how to love you in a way they can connect with you as well as what your boundaries are.
Maybe secretly you desire more quality time with your partner such as going on a date but you’re afraid to ask because you know they work long hours or maybe you want your partner to look after the baby just so you can have an hour to yourself.
Letting your partner know what your needs open the door to communication on how to best meet the needs of both of you.
