My partner cheated on me. Where to next?
Remain calm.
Collect as much information about the affair from your partner.
Was it only one time and if not, how long has it been going on? You have a right to know.
Are they still in contact or has your partner blocked all contact?
Is your partner willing to have an “open phone” policy?
If not, what are they still hiding?
Remember, yelling, screaming and name calling might make you feel better but it wont solve the issues you are now faced with so remember to remain calm.
Dont make rash decisions you may regret later.
If you need to cry….cry. It is good to release your emotions during this time.
If you can, go for a walk to clear your head. Take music with you to help you relax.
Call a friend you can trust to support you.
Make an appointment with your Dr if you believe you need to get checked out for STDs.
Do not spend time blaming yourself. This is wasted energy you will need to use to get through this.
Remember, this is not about you. Your partner needs to take responsibility for their actions without justification.
If you choose to work through these issues, my doors are open for yourself or for couples counselling.
When working out your position in all of this, ask the questions:
- “Were my needs being met?”
- “Did they begin to pull away from me and I didnt notice?”
- “Did I pull away from them?”
- Asking these questions doesnt justify infidelity. It is to help you process the information and help you gather enough information to form a timeline of the affair.
Ready to talk it through?
If something in this article sounds familiar, you do not have to work it out alone.
