Lack of Focus in Relationships
Many relationships don’t fail due to a lack of love but rather a lack of focus.
When you stop caring about each other you lose focus of what is important in the relationship.
Relationships are not about finding the right person, it’s about being the right person.
If you’re honest, you looked for someone to “complete you.”
You looked for someone to make you happy.
The problem with this is you’re going to be faced with unmet expectations. If two people come together expecting the other person to make them happy, the relationship is doomed to fail.
Jenny and Rodger come together looking for love and to be happy.
Down the track, they get married. They’re both unaware of the other person’s expectations of them.
When Jenny and Rodger don’t meet each other’s expectations, resentment and offences begin to build.
At first, it starts with Rodger not remembering a detail of Jenny’s day then Jenny not making Rodney a hot drink when she made herself a hot drink until eventually they start pulling away from each other emotionally feeling like neither one of them cares about the other and one day in the future they’re like two flatmates living together and it all began with unmet expectations.
Suddenly they find themselves asking the question, “How did we get here?”
They remember in the beginning finding each other and being so happy.
