How Our Words Affect Our Children?

As children we internalise the words said to us by our parents. We hold onto them like they are truth.

This is why it is so important to be intentional with the words we speak to our children and to our partner.

You’ve heard the expression actions speak louder than words. This carries a lot of truth in this statement.

If your parent consistently told you to go away Im busy or I can’t look at that now, or if you were belted for crying, you would internalise these words as “Im not valued”, “Im not a priority” or “my feelings don’t matter.”

A child fed messages they were not valued, they were not worthy of love, or even they will not amount to anything, or consistenly sworn at on a daily basis, will grow up with shame, no self worth or self esteem. They will never reach their full potential and they will not know how to develop a health adult relatkonship. They will either become the abusive and toxic parent or they will attract a partner who treats them the same way. They are being set up for a failed relationships.

If a child grows up with the words, I love you, I am so proud of you, you can be anything you want to be, I believe in you, thank you so much for doing that, I appreciate you, they will develop a healthy self worth and self esteem.

They will have goals in place for a good future and a loving relationship.

Be aware of the words you speak to your children and your partner. It can be the difference between peace in your home or living in a toxic environment.
