How important is communication in conflict?

How important is communication in conflict?

Communication includes a person’s tone of voice, body language, eye contact and the words they use.

A person’s tone of voice and body language determines how the other person hears their message.

If someone is the tone of voice and body language sensitive, this can affect them emotionally before they’ve heard the whole message.

A person can take offence just because of someone’s tone of voice and body language and the person trying to have a conversation can have no idea why the other person is offended.

To overcome this problem in your relationship, you can say “I hear you saying……..is this what you mean?”

This gives your partner the opportunity to realise you have misunderstood what they were trying to say and it allows them to explain what they meant.

This avoids misunderstandings and offences.
