Have you been “Love Bombed?”
What is love bombing?
Love bombing is extreme abusive behaviour of a narcissist who wants to manipulate another person they are in a relationship with. They do this by making the other person the centre of attention but the goal is to make that person dependent on them. This can be done by an abundance of gifts and attention; adoration, encouragement, praise, and forcing themselves on the person without any warning such as turning up to stay for the weekend without checking if it is alright to do so. They dont respect the other person’s space or boundaries and will make the other person feel guilty for trying to set up boundaries. They will tell the other person they agreed to set time aside for them when the other person wants time to themselves making the other person feeling guilty for even wanting time alone.
The narcissist will isolate the other person away from their friends and family so they can have time alone with their partner. They will spin it that it is good for the relationship when really it is about them being the centre of the other person’s world. This behaviour is very manipulative and will leave the other person dependent and obligated to the abuser which is their goal.
The victim will go from feeling like theyre suffocating with all the attention one moment to begging for the attention the next, leaving the victim distraught and even anxious not knowing where they stand.
The narcissist will at times come off as a real gentleman, showering their victim with opening doors & pulling out chairs, really making their victim feeling good about themself and the narcissist which is the narcissists goal.
Once the victim is hooked, they will reduce their attention, leaving the victim longing for more like an addiction, making them feel vulnerable without the attention of the narcissist. The victim is now hooked and dependent on the abuser.
A mutually loving relationship will never develop between the couple.
If this describes your relationship tell them you do not feel comfortable around them. They will justify their behaviour & tell you, you are being too sensitive. Do not walk away from this relationship. Run!!! You may need to call the Domestic Violence hotline for advice and clarity and even seek a Counsellor like myself to understand what has been happening to you.
