Do you know your partner’s needs and what does criticism do to the relationship?
Do you know your partner’s needs and what does criticism do to the relationship?
Everyone has a need to feel accepted, loved, valued and supported by their partner, but women especially, want to know if can they trust their hearts in the hands of their partner.
So what does this mean?
This means to unconditionally love and accept your partner.
Don’t put an expectation on your partner to be like you. They are their own person with their own interests and needs.
Other people’s words may not affect you, but women are generally wired emotionally and can take longer to heal.
Your words can wound. Don’t expect your partner to not be affected.
Take the time to listen to each other without coming up with solutions.
Each person needs to be heard and validated when telling their partner about their feelings.
Your partner does not need to hear
“Get over it!!”
Or
“You shouldn’t let it get to you!!”
These comments tell your partner their heart is not safe with you.
They won’t feel valued, validated, supported or heard. It will create distance between you and they will disconnect emotionally, physically and even stop communicating.
If you and your partner are caught up in this cycle, all is not lost.
Ask your partner how their day was and really listen, validating their feelings.
Ask for their opinion on a topic, really considering their answer.
Encourage them in their work or studies.
Let them know how much you value and appreciate them.
