Criticism & Judgement in Relationships
What does criticism and judgement do to a relationship?
When one partner is critical and judgemental towards their partner, they are putting themselves above the other person. It makes their partner feel they cannot be themselves, there is something wrong with them and they’re not good enough.
They may also feel they cannot please their partner.
If a person feels they can never please their partner, what they do is never accepted or good enough, they will stop trying to please their partner and even check out of the relationship.
When a person is continually criticised in the relationship, they lose their identity and selfworth.
Criticism and judgement will push your partner away while tearing down your relationship.
It will sever any chance of emotional or physical intimacy and even communication. When a person is continually criticised they will not feel safe to voice any concerns about the relationship.
Try encouraging your partner and building them up. Appreciate their efforts and acknowledge them.
