Childhood Impacts in Relationships
Our childhood plays a huge part in our relationship. It can cloud the way we interpret the messages we hear from our partner and it can affect our partner’s responses to our goals.
Our childhood messages are internalised and we’re not aware these messages exist inside of us until we are in front of a professional therapist to find out why we do not feel supported by our partner.
Where do these childhood messages come from?
We receive messages from our parents which tell us about the world, (is the world safe or unsafe?), about relationships, (are relationships good or bad), and about ourselves (am I good or bad, am I valued, loved and a priority?)
We take these messages into our adult relationships as well as the way our parents modelled conflict and relationships. All of this affects the way we communicate with each other and these messages including childhood trauma can cause triggers within the relationship.
