Are you sabotaging your relationship?
When you’ve found the right partner you can’t stop there. What about being the right partner?
A relationship should be a place of growth. It shouldn’t feel like a prison.
The way we navigate conflict determines the length of the relationship.
Our childhood can determine our reaction to conflict.
As an example, during your parent’s conflict, you ran to your bedroom to escape the yelling and now during the conflict, you retreat to your room during the conflict.
Your partner’s parents separated when he was a child, leaving him to feel abandoned when his mother left.
Now in the relationship, when you retreat to your room, your partner is triggered and begs you to return to the argument.
You have two people needing to feel secure in the relationship but feel insecure and abandoned during the conflict because of what they saw in their parent’s relationship.
Conflict can be used as a tool for relationship growth. It is OK if our partner has a different opinion from ourselves. We don’t need to run from what makes us uncomfortable.
Take the courage to explore the conflict and your own feelings.
